Religious Ethics
Emmanuel College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Religious Ethics at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will hold a PhD or ThD in a field related to social ethics, with competencies in Christian ethics. Expertise and/or interest in one or more of the following teaching areas is desirable: comparative and/or interreligious ethics, professional ethics, intercultural and/or postcolonial theories, religious education, spirituality. Demonstrated excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and scholarly research is essential.
Emmanuel is a college of Victoria University in the University of Toronto, a member institution of the Toronto School of Theology and a theological school of the United Church of Canada that provides educational programs (all offered conjointly with the University of Toronto) designed for Christians, Muslims, Buddhists and others preparing for a variety of vocations. Official duties related to all faculty positions are spelled out in section 3 of the Memorandum of Agreement.

I. Job expectations and responsibilities
A. Teaching at Emmanuel College and the Toronto School of Theology by:
۱٫ teaching four semester-courses per academic year, including:
- · courses that support the College’s professional master’s programs
- · teaching, supervising and giving research direction to Toronto School of Theology
graduate students (MA, ThM, PhD, DMin)
۲٫ being available, through office hours or by appointment, to students for consultation
B. Engaging in research, scholarship and professional activity by:
- researching, writing and publication in the area of religious ethics
- participating in appropriate scholarly and professional associations
C. Participating in administrative activities by:
- taking an active part in regular and occasional faculty meetings
- serving as a member of appropriate committees within Emmanuel College, Victoria University, Toronto School of Theology, and the University of Toronto
- acting as an advisor for assigned students at Emmanuel College
- participating in the community life of Emmanuel College

IV. Appointment procedure, salary and rank
A. The appointment will be full time at Emmanuel College.
B. The appointment must be approved by the Board of Regents of Victoria University, and the Appointments Committee of the Toronto School of Theology.
V. Effective Date
Review of applications will begin 15 October 2018 and will continue until the position is filled. The appointment is to commence on or after 1 July 2019.
